Our Gas bottles
Williams Home Heat supplies LPG bottles to homes and businesses, offering a full range of Propane, Butane and Patio gas cylinders in a variety of sizes for everyday use.
Which gas cylinder do I need?
Propane (painted Red) is primarily used for heating homes (central heating systems), cooking (including mobile catering) and some commercial applications like forklift trucks and even pheasant rearing!
Butane (painted Blue) is normally used for cabinet heaters, mobile homes and some BBQs. Due to its nature, it typically cannot be used outside in the winter months.
Appliances – some appliances run on Propane and some use Butane. Confusion can arise with products like BBQs where some manufacturers design them for Propane and others for Butane. ALWAYS check instruction booklets for the product and/or with the company that supplied the product.
Science-bit
LPG boils to produce gas (vapour):
- Propane boils at -42°C so can be used in arctic conditions.
- Butane boils at -0.5°C so when the ambient temperature falls to around freezing no gas is produced and even at around +4°C the pressure is often too low to be useful.
